18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. 19 There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle. 20 For it was of Jehovah to [a]harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might [b]utterly destroy them, that they [c]might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time. 19 Except for the Hivites(A) living in Gibeon,(B) not one city made a treaty of peace(C) with the Israelites, who took them all in battle. 20 For it was the Lord himself who hardened their hearts(D) to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.(E)
