So the descendants[a] of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home and departed with the Israelites[b] at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead to the land of their possession, which they had acquired according to the command of Yahweh[c] through the hand of Moses.

10 And they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, and the descendants[d] of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar on the Jordan, a large and imposing altar.[e] 11 And the Israelites[f] heard it said that the descendants[g] of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had built an altar next to the land of Canaan, in the region of the Jordan, on the side belonging to the Israelites.[h]

So the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the Israelites at Shiloh(A) in Canaan to return to Gilead,(B) their own land, which they had acquired in accordance with the command of the Lord through Moses.

10 When they came to Geliloth(C) near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar(D) there by the Jordan. 11 And when the Israelites heard that they had built the altar on the border of Canaan at Geliloth near the Jordan on the Israelite side,
