12 I sent the hornet[a] before you. It drove them out before you and did the same to the two kings of the Amorites. It wasn’t your sword or bow that did this. 13 I gave you land on which you hadn’t toiled and cities that you hadn’t built. You settled in them and are enjoying produce from vineyards and olive groves that you didn’t plant.
Challenge to be faithful
14 “So now, revere the Lord. Serve him honestly and faithfully. Put aside the gods that your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt and serve the Lord.

12 I sent the hornet(A) ahead of you, which drove them out(B) before you—also the two Amorite kings. You did not do it with your own sword and bow.(C) 13 So I gave you a land(D) on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’(E)
14 “Now fear the Lord(F) and serve him with all faithfulness.(G) Throw away the gods(H) your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt,(I) and serve the Lord.
