Joshua 7:7-9

7 And Joshua said, “Alas, O Lord God, (A)why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to give us into the hands of the Amorites, to destroy us? Would that we had been content to dwell beyond the Jordan! 8 O Lord, what can I say, when Israel has turned their backs before their enemies! 9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it and will surround us and (B)cut off our name from the earth. And what will you do for your great name?”

7 And Joshua said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord, why(A) did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us?(B) If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan! 8 Pardon your servant, Lord. What can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies? 9 The Canaanites and the other people of the country will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth.(C) What then will you do for your own great name?(D)”
