⁸ As the men started on their way to map out the land, Joshua instructed them, “Go and make a survey of the land and write a description of it.^(A) Then return to me, and I will cast lots for you here at Shiloh^(B) in the presence of the Lord.”

⁵¹ These are the territories that Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun and the heads of the tribal clans of Israel assigned by lot at Shiloh in the presence of the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting. And so they finished dividing^(A) the land.^(B)

² at Shiloh^(A) in Canaan and said to them, “The Lord commanded through Moses that you give us towns^(B) to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”^(C)

³¹ They continued to use the idol Micah had made,^(A) all the time the house of God^(B) was in Shiloh.^(C)

¹² They found among the people living in Jabesh Gilead four hundred young women who had never slept with a man, and they took them to the camp at Shiloh^(A) in Canaan.

¹⁹ But look, there is the annual festival of the Lord in Shiloh,^(A) which lies north of Bethel^(B), east of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem,^(C) and south of Lebonah.”

³ Year after year^(A) this man went up from his town to worship^(B) and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh,^(C) where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli,^(D) were priests of the Lord.

²¹ The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed^(A) himself to Samuel through his word.

³ When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why^(A) did the Lord bring defeat on us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark^(B) of the Lord’s covenant from Shiloh,^(C) so that he may go with us^(D) and save us from the hand of our enemies.”
