³ But I brought your father Abraham from the region beyond the River and led him through the entire land of Canaan.^(A) I made his descendants numerous, and gave him Isaac.

⁶ “These people are descendants of the Chaldeans. ⁷ They formerly lived in Mesopotamia, for they did not wish to follow the gods of their ancestors who were in the land of the Chaldeans.^{(A) 8} Since they abandoned the way of their ancestors, and worshiped the God of heaven,^[a] the God whom they had come to know, their ancestors expelled them from the presence of their gods. So they fled to Mesopotamia and lived there a long time. ⁹ Their God told them to leave the place where they were living and go to the land of Canaan. Here they settled, and grew very rich in gold, silver, and a great abundance of livestock.^(B)

⁴ So he went forth from the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. And from there, after his father died, he made him migrate to this land where you now dwell.^(A)
