29 He impaled the body of the king of Ai on a pole and left it there until evening. At sunset,(A) Joshua ordered them to take the body from the pole and throw it down at the entrance of the city gate. And they raised a large pile of rocks(B) over it, which remains to this day.

26 Then Joshua put the kings to death and exposed their bodies on five poles, and they were left hanging on the poles until evening.

27 At sunset(A) Joshua gave the order and they took them down from the poles and threw them into the cave where they had been hiding. At the mouth of the cave they placed large rocks, which are there to this day.(B)

The next day, when the Philistines(A) came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. They cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and they sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news(B) in the temple of their idols and among their people.(C) 10 They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths(D) and fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.(E)

11 When the people of Jabesh Gilead(F) heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all their valiant men(G) marched through the night to Beth Shan. They took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned(H) them. 13 Then they took their bones(I) and buried them under a tamarisk(J) tree at Jabesh, and they fasted(K) seven days.(L)
