when her husband got up and went after her, intending to speak lovingly to her[a] in order to win her back. He took with him his young man servant and a pair of donkeys. When she brought him into her father’s house to see him, her father was happy to have met him.

The young woman’s father (that is, his father-in-law) made him stay there for three days while they ate and drank during his visit there. On the fourth day, they got up early that morning, and the descendant of Levi[b] got ready to leave. Then the young woman’s father-in-law told him, “Fortify yourself[c] by eating some food before you go.”

her husband went to her to persuade her to return. He had with him his servant and two donkeys. She took him into her parents’ home, and when her father saw him, he gladly welcomed him. His father-in-law, the woman’s father, prevailed on him to stay; so he remained with him three days, eating and drinking,(A) and sleeping there.

On the fourth day they got up early and he prepared to leave, but the woman’s father said to his son-in-law, “Refresh yourself(B) with something to eat; then you can go.”
