27 Out of these things Gid‘on made a ritual vest, which he located in his city, ‘Ofrah. But all Isra’el turned it into an idol there, and it thus became a snare to Gid‘on and his family.
28 This is how Midyan was defeated by Isra’el, so that they ceased to be a threat. The land had rest forty years during the lifetime of Gid‘on; 29 Yeruba‘al the son of Yo’ash returned to his home and stayed there.

27 Gideon made the gold into an ephod,(A) which he placed in Ophrah,(B) his town. All Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a snare(C) to Gideon and his family.(D)
Gideon’s Death
28 Thus Midian was subdued before the Israelites and did not raise its head(E) again. During Gideon’s lifetime, the land had peace(F) forty years.
