^23 (A)God sent a ^(B)spirit of ill will between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem ^(C)dealt treacherously with Abimelech,

¹⁵ And Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you.

¹⁶ Let our master now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will ^(A)play it with his hand when the ^[a]distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well.”

¹⁰ And it happened on the next day that ^(A)the distressing spirit from God came upon Saul, ^(B)and he prophesied inside the house. So David ^(C)played music with his hand, as at other times; ^(D)but there was a spear in Saul’s hand.

⁹ Now ^(A)the distressing spirit from the Lord came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing music with his hand.

¹⁹ Then Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: ^(A)I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, ^(B)and all the host of heaven standing by, on His right hand and on His left. ²⁰ And the Lord said, ‘Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. ²¹ Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ ²² The Lord said to him, ‘In what way?’ So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the Lord said, ^(C)‘You shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.’
