^23 (A)Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the ^[a]leaders of Shechem; and the ^[b]leaders of Shechem ^(B)dealt treacherously with Abimelech,

¹⁵ Saul’s servants then said to him, “Behold now, an evil spirit from God is terrifying you. ¹⁶ May our lord now command your servants who are before you. Have them search for a man who is a skillful musician on the harp; and it shall come about whenever the evil spirit from God is upon you, that ^(A)he shall play the harp with his hand, and you will become well.”

Saul Turns against David

¹⁰ Now it came about on the next day that ^(A)an evil spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and ^(B)he raved in the midst of the house while David was playing the harp with his hand, ^[a](C)as usual; and ^[b](D)a spear was in Saul’s hand.

⁹ Now there was ^(A)an evil spirit from the Lord on Saul as he was sitting in his house ^(B)with his spear in his hand, ^(C)and David was playing the harp with his hand.

¹⁹ And Micaiah said, “Therefore, hear the word of the Lord. ^(A)I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and ^(B)all the ^[a]angels of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left. ²⁰ And the Lord said, ‘Who will ^[b]entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one spirit said this, while another said that. ²¹ Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, ‘I will ^[c]entice him.’ ²² And the Lord said to him, ‘How?’ And he said, ‘I will go out and ^(C)be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.’ Then He said, ‘You shall ^[d]entice him, and you will also prevail. Go and do so.’
