¹⁹They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets is risen again.

²⁰He said unto them, But who do ye say that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.

²¹And he straitly charged them and commanded them not to tell anyone this,

New International Version

¹⁹They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;^(A) others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”^(B)

²⁰“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”^(C)

²¹Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.^(D)
