5 Your own eyes shall see this, and you shall say, “Great is the Lord, beyond the border of Israel!”

6 “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, ‘How have we despised thy name?’ 7 By offering polluted food upon my altar. And you say, ‘How have we polluted it?’[a] By thinking that the Lord’s table may be despised.

6 “A son honors his father,(C) and a slave his master.(D) If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect(E) due me?” says the Lord Almighty.(F)
“It is you priests who show contempt for my name.
“But you ask,(G) ‘How have we shown contempt for your name?’
7 “By offering defiled food(H) on my altar.
“But you ask,(I) ‘How have we defiled you?’
“By saying that the Lord’s table(J) is contemptible.
