As it is written in Isaiah(A) the prophet:[a](B)

See, I am sending my messenger(C) ahead of you;
he will prepare your way.[b][c] (D)
A voice of one crying out in the wilderness:(E)
Prepare the way for the Lord;(F)
make his paths straight![d](G)

John came baptizing[e](H) in the wilderness(I) and proclaiming a baptism of repentance(J) for the forgiveness(K) of sins.(L)
