2 As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,
“See! I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way.[a]
3 He is a voice calling out in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way for the Lord![b]
Make his paths straight!’”[c]
4 John was baptizing in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism about repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
