2 (A)just as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

“(B)Behold, I am sending My messenger [a]before You,
Who will prepare Your way;
3 (C)The voice of one calling [b]out in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
Make His paths straight!’”

4 John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, [c](D)preaching a baptism of repentance for the (E)forgiveness of sins.

3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.’”[b](B)
