Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection a Third Time^(A)

³² They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. Again, He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what would happen to Him, ³³ saying, “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death and hand Him over to the Gentiles. ³⁴ They will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. Then after three days He will rise.”

³¹ Taking the twelve, He said, “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished, ³² for He will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. ³³ They will scourge Him and put Him to death, and on the third day He will rise again.”

³⁴ They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what was spoken.
