And the chief priests accused Him of many things, but He (B)answered nothing. (C)Then Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things [a]they testify against You!” (D)But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled.

But Jesus still made no reply,(B) and Pilate was amazed.

And they began to (A)accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow (B)perverting [a]the nation, and (C)forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying (D)that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

(E)Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

He answered him and said, It is as you say.”

So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, (F)“I find no fault in this Man.”

But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from (G)Galilee to this place.”

So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

“You have said so,” Jesus replied.

Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”(D)

29 (A)Pilate then went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this Man?”

30 They answered and said to him, “If He were not [a]an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you.”

31 Then Pilate said to them, “You take Him and judge Him according to your law.”

Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,” 32 (B)that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled which He spoke, (C)signifying by what death He would die.

33 (D)Then Pilate entered the [b]Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

34 Jesus answered him, “Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?”

35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?”

36 (E)Jesus answered, (F)“My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”

37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”

Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, (G)that I should bear (H)witness to the truth. Everyone who (I)is of the truth (J)hears My voice.”

38 Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, (K)“I find no fault in Him at all.

29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”

30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”

31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”

“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.(A)

33 Pilate then went back inside the palace,(B) summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”(C)

34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”

35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”

36 Jesus said, “My kingdom(D) is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders.(E) But now my kingdom is from another place.”(F)

37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.

Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth.(G) Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”(H)

38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him.(I)
