The Genealogy of Jesus Christ

1 The book of the genealogy of ^[a]Jesus ^[b]Christ, ^(A)the son of David, ^(B)the son of Abraham:

²³ And all the crowds were astounded, and were saying, “Can this man really be the ^(A)Son of David?”

²² And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, ^(A)Son of David; my daughter is cruelly ^(B)demon-possessed.”

³⁰ And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus *was passing by, cried out, saying, “Lord, ^(A)have mercy on us, ^(B)Son of David!” ³¹ But the crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, saying, “Lord, ^(C)Son of David, have mercy on us!”

⁹ And the crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were crying out, saying,

¹⁵ But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the marvelous things which He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, saying, “Hosanna to the ^(A)Son of David,” they became indignant

⁴² saying, “What do you think about ^[a]the Christ, whose son is He?” They *said to Him, “^(A)The son of David.”

⁴⁷ And when he heard that it was Jesus the ^(A)Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, ^(B)Son of David, have mercy on me!” ⁴⁸ And many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, “^(C)Son of David, have mercy on me!”

^35 (A)And Jesus began to say, as He ^(B)taught in the temple, “How is it that the scribes say that the ^[a]Christ is the ^(C)son of David?
