Matthew 1:16-18
International Standard Version
16 Jacob fathered Joseph, the husband of Mary, who was the mother of Jesus,[a] who is called the Messiah.[b]
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David totaled fourteen[c] generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon totaled fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah[d] there were fourteen generations.

18 Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah[e] happened in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged[f] to Joseph, before they lived together she was discovered to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit.

17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[a]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.(C)
