20 And he having pondered these things, behold— an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for the child having been fathered[a] in her is by the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will give-birth to a Son. And you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. 22 And[b] this entire thing has taken place in order that the thing might be fulfilled having been spoken by the Lord through the prophet saying

20 But after he had considered this, an angel(A) of the Lord appeared to him in a dream(B) and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[a](C) because he will save his people from their sins.”(D)
22 All this took place to fulfill(E) what the Lord had said through the prophet:
