Commissioning the Twelve

10 Summoning his twelve disciples,^(A) he gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every^[a] disease and sickness.^[b](B)

⁵⁶ But all this has happened so that the writings of the prophets^(A) would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples^(B) deserted him and ran away.

Ministering to the Multitude

⁷ Jesus^(A) departed with his disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee,^(B) and a large crowd followed from Judea,^(C)

²⁰ And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the accompanying signs.]

¹³ When daylight came, he summoned his disciples,^(A) and he chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles:^(B)
