11 and when they entered the house they beheld the child with Mary his mother. Falling to their knees, they paid him homage. Then they opened their treasure chests and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.[a] 12 And since they had been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their own country by another route.
13 The Flight into Egypt. After the wise men had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and instructed him, “Arise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt. Remain there until I tell you. Herod seeks the child to kill him.”

- Matthew 2:11 Because of the Old Testament texts of Ps 72:11, 16; Isa 60:6, the wise men were thought to be kings. House: indicates that the wise men did not visit Jesus on the night of his birth as did the shepherds. Although there are three gifts, this does not mean there were three wise men.

11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.(A) Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts(B) of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned(C) in a dream(D) not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
The Escape to Egypt
13 When they had gone, an angel(E) of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.(F) “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”(G)
