The Pharisees Try To Snare Jesus: Shall We Pay Taxes To Caesar?

15 Then the Pharisees, having gone, took counsel so that they might snare Him in a statement. 16 And they send-forth their disciples to Him, with the Herodians[a], saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful, and You teach the way of God in truth. And You are not concerned about [pleasing] anyone, for You do not look at the face[b] of people. 17 Tell us then, what seems right to You? Is it lawful to give a poll-tax[c] to Caesar, or not?”

15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians.(B) “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax[a](C) to Caesar or not?”
