35 So you will be guilty for the death of all the good people who have been killed on earth. You will be guilty for the murder of that good man Abel. And you will be guilty for the murder of Zechariah[a] son of Berakiah. He was murdered when he was between the Temple and the altar. 36 I tell you the truth. All of these things will happen to you people who are living now.

37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets and kill with stones those men God sent to you. Many times I wanted to help your people! I wanted to gather them together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you did not let me.

35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel(A) to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah,(B) whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.(C) 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.(D)
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,(E) how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,(F) and you were not willing.
