27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for (A)this is My blood of the covenant, which is being poured out for (B)many for forgiveness of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it with you, new, in My Father’s kingdom.”
30 (C)And after singing a [a]hymn, they went out to (D)the Mount of Olives.
31 Then Jesus *said to them, “You will all [b](E)fall away because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘(F)I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be (G)scattered.’ 32 But after I have been raised, (H)I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 33 But Peter replied to Him, “Even if they all [c]fall away because of You, I will never fall away!” 34 Jesus said to him, “(I)Truly I say to you that (J)this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” 35 Peter *said to Him, “(K)Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” All the disciples said the same thing as well.
The Garden of Gethsemane
36 (L)Then Jesus *came with them to a place called [d](M)Gethsemane, and *told His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 And He took (N)Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him, and began to be grieved and distressed. 38 Then He *said to them, “(O)My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and (P)keep watch with Me.”
39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let (Q)this cup pass from Me; (R)yet not as I will, but as You will.” 40 And He *came to the disciples and *found them sleeping, and He *said to Peter, “So, you men could not (S)keep watch with Me for one hour? 41 (T)Keep watching and praying, so that you do not come into temptation; (U)the spirit is [e]willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cup (V)cannot pass away unless I drink from it, (W)Your will be done.” 43 Again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 And He left them again, and went away and prayed a third time, saying the same thing once more. 45 Then He *came to the disciples and *said to them, “[f]Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, (X)the hour [g]is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Get up, let’s go; behold, the one who is betraying Me is near!”
Jesus’ Betrayal and Arrest
47 (Y)And while He was still speaking, behold, (Z)Judas, one of the twelve, came [h]accompanied by a large crowd with swords and clubs, who came from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign previously, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him.” 49 And immediately Judas went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, (AA)Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 50 But Jesus said to him, “(AB)Friend, do what you have come for.” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and arrested Him.
51 And behold, (AC)one of those who were with Jesus [i]reached and drew his (AD)sword, and struck the (AE)slave of the high priest and [j]cut off his ear. 52 Then Jesus *said to him, “Put your sword back into its place; for (AF)all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve [k](AG)legions of (AH)angels? 54 How then would (AI)the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?”
55 At that time Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would against a man inciting a revolt? (AJ)Every day I used to sit within the temple grounds teaching, and you did not arrest Me. 56 But all this has taken place so that (AK)the Scriptures of the prophets will be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left Him and fled.
Jesus before Caiaphas
57 (AL)Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to (AM)Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. 58 But (AN)Peter was following Him at a distance, as far as the (AO)courtyard of the high priest, and he came inside and sat down with the [l](AP)officers to see the outcome.
59 Now the chief priests and the entire [m](AQ)Council kept trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death. 60 They did not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward. But later on (AR)two came forward, 61 and said, “This man stated, ‘(AS)I am able to destroy the [n]temple of God and to rebuild it [o]in three days.’” 62 The high priest stood up and said to Him, “Do You offer no answer for what these men are testifying against You?” 63 But (AT)Jesus kept silent. (AU)And the high priest said to Him, “I (AV)place You under oath by (AW)the living God, to tell us whether You are the [p]Christ, (AX)the Son of God.” 64 Jesus *said to him, “(AY)You have said it yourself. But I tell you, from now on you will see (AZ)the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and (BA)coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Then the high priest (BB)tore his [q]robes and said, “He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? See, you have now heard the blasphemy; 66 what do you think?” They answered, “(BC)He deserves death!”
67 (BD)Then they (BE)spit in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others [r]slapped Him, 68 and said, “(BF)Prophesy to us, You [s]Christ; who is the one who hit You?”
Peter’s Denials
69 (BG)Now Peter was sitting outside in the (BH)courtyard, and a slave woman came to him and said, “You too were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.” 71 When he had gone out to the gateway, another slave woman saw him and *said to those who were there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 And again he denied it, with an oath: “I do not know the man.” 73 A little later the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “You really are one of them as well, (BI)since even the way you talk [t]gives you away.” 74 Then he began to curse and swear, “I do not know the man!” And immediately a rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the statement that Jesus had [u]made: “(BJ)Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(F)
31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me,(G) for it is written:
32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(I)
33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”
34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(J)
35 But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you,(K) I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.
Gethsemane(L)
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee(M) along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow(N) to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”(O)
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup(P) be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”(Q)
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me(R) for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(S) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”(T)
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour(U) has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Jesus Arrested(V)
47 While he was still speaking, Judas,(W) one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!”(X) and kissed him.
50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”[c](Y)
Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword,(Z) drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.(AA)
52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.(AB) 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?(AC) 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled(AD) that say it must happen in this way?”
55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching,(AE) and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.”(AF) Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(AG)
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas(AH) the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest.(AI) He entered and sat down with the guards(AJ) to see the outcome.
59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(AK) were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses(AL) came forward.
Finally two(AM) came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”(AN)
62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.(AO)
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath(AP) by the living God:(AQ) Tell us if you are the Messiah,(AR) the Son of God.”(AS)
64 “You have said so,”(AT) Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One(AU) and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[d](AV)
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes(AW) and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,”(AX) they answered.
67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists.(AY) Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”(AZ)
Peter Disowns Jesus(BA)
69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said.
70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.
71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”
73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”
74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”
Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(BB) And he went outside and wept bitterly.

56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,
61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
63 But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.
67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

51 A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him. 52 But he [s]pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.
Jesus before His Accusers
53 (U)They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes *gathered together. 54 And Peter had followed Him at a distance, (V)right into (W)the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the [t]officers and (X)warming himself at the [u]fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the entire [v](Y)Council were trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. 56 For many people were giving false testimony against Him, and so their testimonies were not consistent. 57 And then some stood up and began giving false testimony against Him, saying, 58 “We heard Him say, ‘(Z)I will destroy this [w]temple that was made by hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.’” 59 And not even in this respect was their testimony consistent. 60 And then the high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, “Do You not offer any answer for what these men are testifying against You?” 61 (AA)But He kept silent and did not offer any answer. (AB)Again the high priest was questioning Him, and *said to Him, “Are You the [x]Christ, the Son of [y]the Blessed One?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see (AC)the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and (AD)coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63 (AE)Tearing his clothes, the high priest *said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the (AF)blasphemy; how does it seem to you?” And they all condemned Him as deserving of death. 65 And some began to (AG)spit on Him, and [z](AH)to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists and say to Him, “(AI)Prophesy!” Then the officers took custody of Him [aa]and slapped Him in the face.
Peter’s Denials
66 (AJ)And while Peter was below in (AK)the courtyard, one of the slave women of the high priest *came, 67 and seeing Peter (AL)warming himself, she looked at him and *said, “You were with Jesus the (AM)Nazarene as well.” 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are talking about.” And he (AN)went out onto the [ab]porch.[ac] 69 The slave woman saw him, and began once more to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them!” 70 But again (AO)he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, “You really are one of them, (AP)for you are a Galilean as well.” 71 But he began to [ad]curse himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak!” 72 And immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, “Before (AQ)a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And [ae]he hurried on and began to weep.

23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.(A)
24 “This is my blood of the[a] covenant,(B) which is poured out for many,” he said to them. 25 “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”(C)
26 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(D)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(E)
27 “You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written:
28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(G)
29 Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.”
30 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice[c] you yourself will disown me three times.”(H)
31 But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you,(I) I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same.
Gethsemane(J)
32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John(K) along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,”(L) he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour(M) might pass from him. 36 “Abba,[d] Father,”(N) he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup(O) from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”(P)
37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? 38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(Q) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”(R)
39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour(S) has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Jesus Arrested(T)
43 Just as he was speaking, Judas,(U) one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.
44 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.” 45 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!”(V) and kissed him. 46 The men seized Jesus and arrested him. 47 Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48 “Am I leading a rebellion,” said Jesus, “that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts,(W) and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”(X) 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled.(Y)
51 A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52 he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(Z)(AA)
53 They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together. 54 Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest.(AB) There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.(AC)
55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(AD) were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. 56 Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.
57 Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another,(AE) not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even then their testimony did not agree.
60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.(AF)
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”(AG)
62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”(AH)
63 The high priest tore his clothes.(AI) “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64 “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”
They all condemned him as worthy of death.(AJ) 65 Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.(AK)
Peter Disowns Jesus(AL)
66 While Peter was below in the courtyard,(AM) one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself,(AN) she looked closely at him.
“You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus,”(AO) she said.
68 But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,”(AP) he said, and went out into the entryway.[e]
69 When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” 70 Again he denied it.(AQ)
After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”(AR)
71 He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”(AS)
72 Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.[f] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice[g] you will disown me three times.”(AT) And he broke down and wept.

35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
