^30 [a]Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Peter’s Denial Foretold. ^31 (A)Then Jesus said to them, “This night all of you will have your faith in me shaken,^[b] for it is written:^(B)

³² but after I have been raised up, I shall go before you to Galilee.” ³³ Peter said to him in reply, “Though all may have their faith in you shaken, mine will never be.” ^34 [c](C)Jesus said to him, “Amen, I say to you, this very night before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.”^{(D) 35} Peter said to him, “Even though I should have to die with you, I will not deny you.” And all the disciples spoke likewise.

³⁴ But he replied, “I tell you, Peter, before the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me.”^(A)

³⁹ Then going out he went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.

Peter’s Denial Predicted. ³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, “Master, where are you going?” Jesus answered [him], “Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, though you will follow later.”^{(A) 37} Peter said to him, “Master, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” ³⁸ Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Amen, amen, I say to you, the cock will not crow before you deny me three times.”^(B)
