² After tying Him up, they led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate,^[a] the governor.^(A)

⁴ Pilate then told the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no grounds^(A) for charging this man.”

¹⁵ But they shouted, “Take Him away! Take Him away! Crucify Him!”

Pilate said to them, “Should I crucify your king?”

“We have no king but Caesar!” the chief priests answered.

²⁸ Though they found no grounds for the death penalty, they asked Pilate to have Him killed.^(A)
