² So they bound him, led him away and handed him over^(A) to Pilate the governor.^(B)

⁴ Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”^(A)

¹⁵ But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”

“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.

“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.

²⁸ Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed.^(A)
