Matthew 27:22-24

22 Pilate said to them, ‘Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?’[a] All of them said, ‘Let him be crucified!’ 23 Then he asked, ‘Why, what evil has he done?’ But they shouted all the more, ‘Let him be crucified!’

24 So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, ‘I am innocent of this man’s blood;[b] see to it yourselves.’

New International Version
22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?”(A) Pilate asked.
They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar(B) was starting, he took water and washed his hands(C) in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,”(D) he said. “It is your responsibility!”(E)
