23 And he said, “Why, what evil did He do?” But they were crying out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”
24 Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that (A)a riot was starting, he took water and (B)washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of (C)this man’s blood; (D)see to that yourselves.” 25 And all the people answered and said, “(E)His blood be on us and on our children!”

23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar(A) was starting, he took water and washed his hands(B) in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,”(C) he said. “It is your responsibility!”(D)
25 All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”(E)
