21 So Jesus said to them again, “(A)Peace be to you; (B)just as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 (C)If you forgive the sins of any, their sins [a]have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”
24 But (D)Thomas, one of (E)the twelve, who was called [b](F)Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in (G)His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, (H)I will not believe.”
26 [c]Eight days later His disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus *came, the doors having been [d]shut, and stood in their midst and said, “(I)Peace be to you.” 27 Then He *said to Thomas, “(J)Place your finger here, and see My hands; and take your hand and put it into My side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.” 28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus *said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you now believed? (K)Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
Why This Gospel Was Written
30 (L)So then, many other [e](M)signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written (N)so that you may believe that Jesus is the [f]Christ, (O)the Son of God; and that by (P)believing you may have life in His name.

Jesus Appears to Thomas
24 Now Thomas(F) (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side,(G) I will not believe.”(H)
26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace(I) be with you!”(J) 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”(K)
28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed;(L) blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”(M)
The Purpose of John’s Gospel
30 Jesus performed many other signs(N) in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.(O) 31 But these are written that you may believe[b](P) that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,(Q) and that by believing you may have life in his name.(R)
