⁹ And if your eye causes your downfall, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, rather than to have two eyes and be thrown into hellfire!^[a](A)

⁴³ And if your hand causes your downfall, cut it off.^(A) It is better for you to enter life maimed^(B) than to have two hands and go to hell—the unquenchable fire,^(C)

⁶ And the tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed among the parts of our bodies. It pollutes the whole body,^(A) sets the course of life on fire, and is set on fire by hell.

¹⁵ Everyone who hates his brother^(A) is a murderer,^(B) and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
