⁶⁷ Then they spit in His face^(A) and beat Him; others slapped Him

²⁶ Then he released Barabbas to them. But after having Jesus flogged,^[a] he handed Him over to be crucified.^(A)

⁶⁵ Then some began to spit on Him, to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, saying, “Prophesy!”^(A) The temple police^(B) also took Him and slapped Him.

¹⁹ They kept hitting Him on the head with a reed and spitting on Him. Getting down on their knees,^(A) they were paying Him homage.

Jesus Mocked and Beaten

⁶³ The men who were holding Jesus started mocking and beating Him.^(A)

Jesus Flogged and Mocked

19 Then Pilate took Jesus and had Him flogged. ² The soldiers also twisted together a crown^(A) of thorns, put it on His head, and threw a purple robe around Him. ³ And they repeatedly came up to Him^(B) and said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and were slapping His face.

⁴ Pilate went outside again and said to them, “Look, I’m bringing Him outside to you to let you know I find no grounds^(C) for charging Him.”

Pilate Sentences Jesus to Death

⁵ Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe.^(D) Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”^(E)
