²¹ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father, preparing their nets, and he called them.

²⁰ Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons approached him with her sons.^(A) She knelt down to ask him for something.^(B)

³⁷ Taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled.^(A)

⁵⁶ Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.^(A)

¹⁹ Going on a little farther, he saw James^(A) the son of Zebedee^(B) and his brother John^(C) in a boat putting their nets in order. ²⁰ Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.^(D)

¹⁷ and to James^(A) the son of Zebedee,^(B) and to his brother John,^(C) he gave the name “Boanerges” (that is, “Sons of Thunder”^(D));

³⁵ James^(A) and John,^(B) the sons of Zebedee,^(C) approached him and said, “Teacher,^(D) we want you to do whatever we ask you.”

¹⁰ and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s partners.

“Don’t be afraid,”^(A) Jesus told Simon. “From now on you will be catching people.”^(B)

⁷ The disciple, the one Jesus loved, said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” ^(A)

When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tied his outer clothing around him (for he had taken it off) and plunged into the sea.
