The Ruler from Bethlehem

[a]“As for you, Bethlehem of Ephrathah,
    even though you remain least among the clans[b] of Judah,
nevertheless, the one who rules in Israel for me
    will emerge from you.
His existence has been[c] from antiquity,
    even from eternity.
Therefore that ruler[d] will abandon them
    until the woman in labor gives birth.
Then the rest of his countrymen will return to the Israelis.”

“Then he will take his stand,
    shepherding by means of the strength of the Lord,
        by the power[e] of the name of the Lord his God.
And they will be firmly[f] established;
    indeed, from then on he will become great—
        to the ends of the earth.

out of you will come for me
    one who will be ruler(C) over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,(D)
    from ancient times.”(E)

Therefore Israel will be abandoned(F)
    until the time when she who is in labor bears a son,
and the rest of his brothers return
    to join the Israelites.

He will stand and shepherd his flock(G)
    in the strength of the Lord,
    in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they will live securely, for then his greatness(H)
    will reach to the ends of the earth.
