7 For if you offered him thousands of rams and ten thousands of rivers of olive oil—would that please him? Would he be satisfied? If you sacrificed your oldest child, would that make him glad? Then would he forgive your sins? Of course not!
8 No, he has told you what he wants, and this is all it is: to be fair, just, merciful, and to walk humbly with your God.
9 The Lord’s voice calls out to all Jerusalem—listen to the Lord if you are wise! “The armies of destruction are coming; the Lord is sending them.

7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,(A)

Shall I offer my firstborn(C) for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?(D)
8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly(E) and to love mercy

8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
9 The Lord's voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.
