Hear the sound of whips

Hear horses galloping
    and chariots bouncing along!
·Horses [Cavalry; Horsemen] are charging,
    swords are ·shining [flashing],
    spears are gleaming!
Many are ·dead [slain];
    their bodies are piled up—
too many to count.
    People stumble over the dead bodies.

Woe to the city of blood,(A)

    never without victims!
The crack of whips,
    the clatter of wheels,
galloping horses
    and jolting chariots!
Charging cavalry,
    flashing swords
    and glittering spears!
Many casualties,
    piles of dead,
bodies without number,
    people stumbling over the corpses(C)
