4 There were also some who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral. 5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Behold,[a] we bring our sons and our daughters into bondage to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. It is also not in our power to help it, because other men have our fields and our vineyards.”
6 I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.

4 Still others were saying, “We have had to borrow money to pay the king’s tax(A) on our fields and vineyards. 5 Although we are of the same flesh and blood(B) as our fellow Jews and though our children are as good as theirs, yet we have to subject our sons and daughters to slavery.(C) Some of our daughters have already been enslaved, but we are powerless, because our fields and our vineyards belong to others.”(D)
6 When I heard their outcry and these charges, I was very angry.

5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.
6 And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.
