Numbers 21:3-5
New Living Translation
3 The Lord heard the Israelites’ request and gave them victory over the Canaanites. The Israelites completely destroyed them and their towns, and the place has been called Hormah[a] ever since.
The Bronze Snake
4 Then the people of Israel set out from Mount Hor, taking the road to the Red Sea[b] to go around the land of Edom. But the people grew impatient with the long journey, 5 and they began to speak against God and Moses. “Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?” they complained. “There is nothing to eat here and nothing to drink. And we hate this horrible manna!”

New International Version
3 The Lord listened to Israel’s plea and gave the Canaanites(A) over to them. They completely destroyed them(B) and their towns; so the place was named Hormah.[a](C)

4 They traveled from Mount Hor(D) along the route to the Red Sea,[b](E) to go around Edom.(F) But the people grew impatient on the way;(G) 5 they spoke against God(H) and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt(I) to die in the wilderness?(J) There is no bread! There is no water!(K) And we detest this miserable food!”(L)
