5 And ye shall measure without the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the midst. This shall be to them the suburbs of the cities. 6 And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee unto: and besides them ye shall give forty and two cities. 7 All the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities; them shall ye give with their suburbs.

5 Outside the town, measure two thousand cubits[a](A) on the east side, two thousand on the south side, two thousand on the west and two thousand on the north, with the town in the center. They will have this area as pastureland for the towns.(B)
Cities of Refuge(C)
6 “Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone may flee.(D) In addition, give them forty-two other towns. 7 In all you must give the Levites forty-eight towns, together with their pasturelands.
