Proverbs 14:12-14

¹²Before every man there lies a wide and pleasant road that seems right but ends in death.

¹³Laughter cannot mask a heavy heart. When the laughter ends, the grief remains.

¹⁴The backslider gets bored with himself; the godly man’s life is exciting.

¹²There is a way that appears to be right,^(A)
but in the end it leads to death.^(B)

¹³Even in laughter^(C) the heart may ache,
and rejoicing may end in grief.

¹⁴The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways,^(D)
and the good rewarded for theirs.^(E)
