¹⁵^(A)By long forbearance a ruler is persuaded,
And a gentle tongue breaks a bone.

⁸Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.

⁸Scoffers ^(A)set a city aflame,
But wise men turn away wrath.

⁴If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.

⁴If the spirit of the ruler rises against you,
^(A)Do not leave your post;
For ^(B)conciliation^[a] pacifies great offenses.
