¹⁴ Her profit is better than profit in silver,
    and better than gold is her revenue;

¹⁰ Take my instruction instead of silver,
    and knowledge rather than choice gold.
¹¹ [For Wisdom is better than corals,
    and no treasures can compare with her.^(A)]

¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, even pure gold,
    and my yield than choice silver.^(A)

¹⁶ How much better to get wisdom than gold!
    To get understanding is preferable to silver.^[a](A)

⁷ Therefore I prayed, and prudence was given me;
    I pleaded and the spirit of Wisdom came to me.^(A)
8 I preferred her to scepter and throne,^(B)
And deemed riches nothing in comparison with her,
⁹     nor did I liken any priceless gem to her;
Because all gold, in view of her, is a bit of sand,
    and before her, silver is to be accounted mire.
¹⁰ Beyond health and beauty I loved her,
And I chose to have her rather than the light,
    because her radiance never ceases.^(C)

    and countless riches at her hands;
