16 The heavens belong to the Lord, but he has given the earth to all mankind.

17 The dead cannot sing praises to Jehovah here on earth,[a] 18 but we can! We praise him forever! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

16 The highest heavens belong to the Lord,(A)
    but the earth he has given(B) to mankind.
17 It is not the dead(C) who praise the Lord,
    those who go down to the place of silence;
18 it is we who extol the Lord,(D)
    both now and forevermore.(E)
