Remember, O Yahweh, against the sons of (A)Edom
The day of Jerusalem,
Who said, “Tear it down! Tear it down
(B)To its very foundation.”

For (A)My sword is satiated in heaven;
Behold, it shall descend for judgment upon (B)Edom
And upon the people whom I have (C)devoted to destruction.
The sword of Yahweh is filled with blood;
It is [a]sated with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats,
With the fat of the kidneys of rams.
For Yahweh has a sacrifice in (D)Bozrah
And a great slaughter in the land of (E)Edom.

Prophesy Against Edom

12 ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Because (A)Edom has acted against the house of Judah by taking vengeance and has incurred grievous guilt and avenged themselves upon them,” 13 therefore thus says Lord Yahweh, “I will also (B)stretch out My hand against Edom and (C)cut off man and beast from it. And I will lay it waste; from (D)Teman even to (E)Dedan they will fall by the sword. 14 (F)I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel. Therefore, they will act in Edom (G)according to My anger and according to My wrath; thus they will know My vengeance,” declares Lord Yahweh.

Prophecy Against Mount Seir

35 Moreover, the word of Yahweh came to me saying, “Son of man, set your face against (A)Mount Seir and prophesy against it and say to it, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh,

“Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir,
And I will (B)stretch out My hand against you
And make you a (C)desolation and a desecration.
I will (D)lay waste your cities,
And you will become a desolation.
Then you will know that I am Yahweh.

Because you have had everlasting (E)enmity and have [a]delivered the sons of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their disaster, at the time of the [b](F)punishment of the end, therefore as I live,” declares Lord Yahweh, “I will [c]prepare you for (G)bloodshed, and bloodshed will pursue you; you surely have not hated bloodshed, so bloodshed will pursue you. I will make Mount Seir a waste and a desolation, and I will cut off from it the one who passes through and returns. I will (H)fill its mountains with its slain; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those slain by the sword will [d]fall. I will make you an everlasting (I)desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.

10 “Because you have (J)said, ‘These two nations and these two lands will be mine, and we will possess [e]them,’ although (K)Yahweh was there, 11 therefore as I live,” declares Lord Yahweh, “I will deal with you (L)according to your anger and according to your jealousy which you dealt with them because of your hatred against them; so I will (M)make Myself known among them when I judge you. 12 Then you will know [f]that I, Yahweh, have heard all your [g]contempt which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel saying, ‘They are laid desolate; they are (N)given to us for food.’ 13 And you have (O)magnified yourselves with your mouth against Me and have multiplied your words against Me; (P)I have heard it.” 14 Thus says Lord Yahweh, “As all the (Q)earth delights, I will make you a desolation. 15 As you (R)delighted over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, (S)so I will do to you. You will be a (T)desolation, O Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.”’

Edom Will Be Brought Down

The vision of Obadiah.

Thus says Lord [a]Yahweh concerning (A)Edom—

(B)We have heard a report from Yahweh,
And an (C)envoy has been sent among the nations saying,
(D)Arise! And let us arise against her for battle”—
“Behold, I will make you (E)small among the nations;
You are greatly despised.
The (F)arrogance of your heart has deceived you,
You who dwell in the clefts of [b]the (G)cliff,
In the height of your habitation,
Who says in his heart,
(H)Who will bring me down to earth?’
Though you (I)build loftily like the eagle,
Though you set your nest among the (J)stars,
From there I will bring you down,” declares Yahweh.
“If (K)thieves came to you,
If [c]robbers by night—
Oh how you will be ruined!—
Would they not thieve only [d]until they had enough?
If grape gatherers came to you,
(L)Would they not allow some gleanings to remain?
Oh how Esau will be (M)searched out
And his hidden treasures ransacked!
All the (N)men who have [e]a covenant with you
Will send you forth to the border,
And the men at peace with you
Will deceive you and overpower you.
They who eat your (O)bread
Will set an ambush for you.
(There is (P)no discernment [f]in him.)
Will I not on that day,” declares Yahweh,
(Q)Cause the wise men to perish from Edom
And discernment from the mountain of Esau?
Then your (R)mighty men will be dismayed, O (S)Teman,
So that each one may be (T)cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.

10 “Because of (U)violence to your brother Jacob,
[g]You will be covered with shame,
(V)And you will be cut off forever.
11 On the day that you (W)stood aloof,
On the day that strangers took his wealth captive
And foreigners entered his gate
And (X)cast lots for Jerusalem—
(Y)You too were as one of them.

12 (Z)Now do not look on your brother’s day with triumph,
The day of his misfortune.
And (AA)do not be glad over the sons of Judah
In the day when they perish;
And (AB)do not [h]let your mouth speak great things
In the day of their distress.
13 Do not enter the gate of My people
In the (AC)day of their disaster.
Indeed, you, do not look on their calamity with triumph
In the day of their disaster.
And do not (AD)send out for their wealth
In the day of their disaster.
14 Do not (AE)stand at the fork of the road
To cut down those among them who escape;
And do not deliver over their survivors
In the day of their distress.

“I have (A)loved you,” says Yahweh. But you say, “How have You loved us?” “Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares Yahweh. “Yet I (B)have loved Jacob; but I have hated Esau, and I have (C)set his mountains to be a desolation and his inheritance for the jackals of the wilderness.” Though Edom says, “We have been (D)demolished, but we will [a](E)return and build up the waste places”; thus says Yahweh of hosts, “They may (F)build, but I will pull down; and men will call them a [b]territory of wickedness, and the people [c]toward whom Yahweh is indignant (G)forever.” And your eyes will see this, and you will say, “(H)Yahweh [d]be magnified beyond the [e]territory of Israel!”
