⁹The men of Ephraim, though armed with bows,^(A)
turned back on the day of battle;^(B)

⁹The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

⁹The children of Ephraim, being armed and ^[a]carrying bows,
Turned back in the day of battle.

⁵⁷Like their ancestors^(A) they were disloyal and faithless,
as unreliable as a faulty bow.^(B)

⁵⁷But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
