²³ “‘If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction^(A) but continue to be hostile toward me, ²⁴ I myself will be hostile^(B) toward you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over.

⁴² But God turned away from them^(A) and gave them over to the worship of the sun, moon and stars.^(B) This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets:

²⁸ Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over^(A) to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.
