Psalm 95:7-9 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

The Lord is our God,
    and we are his people,
the sheep he takes care of
    in his own pasture.

Listen to God’s voice today!
Don’t be stubborn and rebel
    as your ancestors did
    at Meribah and Massah[a]
    out in the desert.
For forty years
they tested God
    and saw
    the things he did.

Footnotes:

  1. 95.8 Meribah and Massah: See the note at 81.7.

Psalm 95:7-9 New International Version (NIV)

for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
“Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,[a]
as you did that day at Massah[b] in the wilderness,
where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.

Footnotes:

  1. Psalm 95:8 Meribah means quarreling.
  2. Psalm 95:8 Massah means testing.

Psalm 95:7-9 King James Version (KJV)

For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.
