87 1 The holy Ghost promiseth, that the condition of the Church which was in misery after the captivity of Babylon, should be restored to great excellency. 4 So that there should be nothing more comfortable, than to be numbered among the members thereof.

1 God laid his [a]foundations among the holy mountains.
2 The Lord loveth the gates of Zion above all the habitations of Jacob.
3 [b]Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.
4 I will make mention of [c]Rahab and Babel among them that know me: behold Palestine and Tyre with Ethiopia, [d]There is he born.
5 And of Zion it shall be said, [e]Many are born in her: and he, even the most High shall stablish her.
6 The Lord shall count, when he [f]writeth the people, He was born there. Selah.
7 As well the singers as the players on instruments shall praise thee: all my [g]springs are in thee.
Psalm 87:1God did choose that place among the hills, to establish Jerusalem and his Temple.
Psalm 87:3Though thy glorious estate does not yet appear, yet wait with patience, and God will accomplish his promise.
Psalm 87:4That is, Egypt and these other countries shall come to the knowledge of God.
Psalm 87:4It shall be said of him that is regenerate and come to the Church, that he is as one that was born in the Church.
Psalm 87:5Out of all quarters they shall come to the Church, and be counted as citizens.
Psalm 87:6When he calleth by his word them into the Church, whom he had elected and written in the book.
Psalm 87:7The Prophet setteth his whole affections and comfort in the Church.
